Traditional knowledge management approaches and the Knowledge Aware approach are very different.

    Traditional Knowledge Management Approaches (Passive)
Traditional examples include document vaults, checklists, customized solutions, and human recall.

Organizations that use traditional knowledge management solutions cannot effectively capture, share, and promote the reuse of knowledge. Information is often difficult to locate and quickly becomes outdated. As a result, knowledge becomes unreliable and unused.

    Other cons:
    – Lacks the ability to link related knowledge
    – Company expertise is compartmentalized
    – Knowledge is difficult to apply in context

    Knowledge Aware Approach (Active)
Active approach examples include Auros Knowledge Systems and home-grown solutions.

Organizations that use a Knowledge Aware solution effectively capture, share, and reuse organizational knowledge. As a result, technical decision-making and analysis is positively influenced, saving resources and time.

    Other pros:
    – Recurring mistakes are eliminated
    – Workforce efficiency is improved
    – Undesirable project variation is reduced
